'Teaching for Mastery'
From the 8-22 November, our Acting Assistant Headteacher and Head of Maths Mr Glover visited the Chinese city of Shanghai as part of a 107 strong delegation of teachers with the Department for Education looking at the teaching of mathematics.
Shanghai leads the world in the teaching of mathematics and regularly tops the international PISA league tables. Mr Glover visited two secondary schools and two primary schools during his visit, observing a number of lessons, speaking with partner teachers in the schools and also teaching a lesson to the Chinese students himself. The visit is part of a broader project to introduce a ‘Teaching for Mastery’ approach to mathematics into UK primary and secondary schools, and De Lisle are currently leading the way locally in rolling out this approach based on the Shanghai model. Mr Glover is looking forward to sharing the findings of his trip with both staff and students over the coming weeks.
