Year 7 at The Briars

The Year 7 Briars trip was a great opportunity for students and staff to spend time together reflecting on their faith. For some, this was the first time they had been away from home and, for many, the first time that they had discussed their faith with other people their age.

Throughout the week, the students met in small groups to talk about themes such as individuality, community and reconciliation. Reconciliation was explored in more depth later in the week when students and staff were given the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation from Fr Jonathan Cotton.
The final night saw us gather to celebrate Mass where each small group was responsible for organising particular parts of the liturgy. The music was brilliant and everyone had a great experience.

Everyone left the Briars feeling that somehow they had discovered more about God and about their faith. To top it all off the young people we went with were brilliant.

Erin, 7C1, said, ‘When Year 7 visited the Briars we had lots of opportunities to meet and talk to other students and teachers. Even though some people were anxious before going, we were really encouraged to get involved by The Briars team. The food was amazing and there was something for everyone. We gathered every morning and evening to share prayers that were prepared by each small group. Other things we got up to were to a long walk, reconciliation, Mass and a disco and talent show. It was such a brilliant week.’
