The Romero Cross

The RE department have been delivering home learning content to Year 8 students on the theme of Catholic Social Teaching. We have been looking in detail at Liberation Theology and Oscar Romero and how these ideas embody the core concepts within Catholic Social Teaching of dignity, solidarity, respect and caring for others, particularly those who are most vulnerable.

The students have been inspired by Oscar Romero and his speeches that made it so clear that we have a duty to help those less fortunate; 'those with a voice must stand up for the voiceless'.  After seeing how Romero Crosses were designed and looking at some of the important key features, Year 8 students went on to design their own versions of the crosses, inspired by their own faith communities. We are so proud of the hard work and effort the students put in and Mrs Badock has kindly made some examples of their work into a display. We are looking forward to welcoming students back into school so they can see the fruits of their labours adorning our corridors.
