    Department Patron Saints

If you were to look around college, you would see that each department has a dedicated Patron Saint display.

A Patron Saint acts as an advocate for different aspects of our lives. They may be linked to things such as skills, trades, careers, academic subjects, charitable causes or emotional states such as depression or anxiety. They are chosen for, among many things, their acts of faith, virtue and courage and the example they set for everyday Christians.

These Patron Saints were chosen by the Leaders of Learning because of their link to those subjects. These are some examples.

St John Bosco, the Patron Saint of RE. He started a religious order known as the Salesians of Don Bosco with the mission of educating the poorest young people in the city of Turin.

Since starting his religious order, the Salesians of Don Bosco have established schools, youth clubs and parishes all around the world to improve the lives of young people.

St Oscar Romero, the Patron Saint of Sociology. St Oscar Romero is one of the most famous advocates of the Churches option for the poor. During his time as priest and Archbishop of San Salvador, he fought alongside the persecuted poor in El Salvadoran society because he believed all people to be created in the image and likeness of God.
