CR Civil Engineering Presentation

Posted on: January 19th 2022College Events

During Learning for Life this week, Year 11 students heard from staff, including current apprentices Jessica and Kai, from CR Civil Engineering – a local, Loughborough-based firm.  The presentation shared iconic structures built throughout history and made students aware of the cutting edge technology and equipment used in modern construction projects.

The apprentices spoke to students about the various specialisms within civil engineering, including highways, airfield, rail, environmental and surfacing – as well as the construction of structures.  Myths were also debunked, such as by discussing how over 320,000 women work in construction in the UK.  The wide range of careers within construction were also discussed and linked to school subjects including maths, English, science, geography, art, PE and computing.

We look forward to welcoming CR Civil Engineering back into school to speak to Year 10 in a future lesson.  Year 11 students interested in apprenticeships as their next step will have the opportunity to attend further careers workshops as part of National Apprenticeship Week, when they will be given support in finding opportunities and making applications.
