Diamond Jubilee Mass

On Friday 1 July the entire De Lisle community, joined by special guests from the wider Church and the secular world, celebrated the schools 60th Anniversary. Technically we are nearly 63, however due to the pandemic we have moved the celebration to this year.

The usual school day was overhauled to enjoy a celebration of Mass with Rt Rev Patrick McKinney, Bishop of Nottingham. All of year 7, 8, 9, and 10, and many of our sixth form students joined together in giving thanks for 60 years of the school. Bishop Patrick's homily focused on the importance of young people in the Church and how small acts of prayer and faithfulness can change the world.

Bishop Patrick then blessed a new painting which was commissioned for our 60th Anniversary and the newly named St Ambrose Centre which is a space for both sixth formers and staff to enjoy.

A word of thanks to all involved in the day, including Dr Pye who steered us all in the right direction, Mr Lissaman who ran the logistics of the day, Mrs Fisher and Mr Dellaca who led and trained our wonderful orchestra and choir, James Noakes (Lay Chaplain at English Martyrs) who we could not have celebrated the Mass without, and all our young people who in many ways carried the Mass together.

On a personal note, as I come to the end of my first year as Lay Chaplain at De Lisle, I want to thank each one of you for your continued support and encouragement and most importantly, your prayers. Please continue to pray for me as I do for you, enjoy your summer break and I look forward to seeing you in the Advent term.
