Visit to University of Oxford

Posted on: February 28th 2018Trips & Expeditions

On Wednesday 28th February we had a fantastic day visiting St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University to gain an insight into what it’s like to study there. Arriving at Oxford university, we were greeted by Oxford outreach worker Luke. He, like the two student ambassadors, was very friendly and willing to answer questions. Our first activity had a discussion about the difference between an Oxbridge experience to the other universities in the UK such as tutorials. We also looked at the different aspects of the application process that made Oxbridge stand out and the parts which were seen as difficult to other students. We gained a great insight into the interview process and even had a go as a group answering a question that was asked in a biology interview. It was a very useful experience to share ideas as a group and come up with a range of different responses to a difficult question.

Next, we had a tour of St. Edmund Hall with the student ambassadors who answered our questions about the life at Oxford. We continued to talk to them in a very grand dining hall, over lunch which was very good, especially the vegan option.

This experience was a very useful insight into the application process, the setup of tutorials and teaching at Oxford and what it would be like to be a student at such a prestigious university.
