British Science Week begins today and Mr Akhurst has been dazzling students with a series of amazing demonstrations on the theme of pressure.
During special assemblies delivered over the course of last week, students saw a table-tennis ball fired out of a cannon, some household flour explode in a fire ball, and most startling of all, Mr Akhurst being hit repeatedly by a sledge hammer (and living to tell the tale).
There is more excitement in store for students this week, as they try out fun science-based activities for themselves.
Please talk to your child about what they have been learning in school, and encourage their interest in science.
For families who are interested in getting involved with British Science Week at home, the British Science Association has published a guide full of experiments and activities.
