Career Ready – London Visit and In-School Masterclass
On Wednesday 7 December, a group of Year 12 students represented De Lisle College’s Sixth Form at Career Ready’s “Capital Experience”.
Held in Central London, A Capital Experience brought together over 1000 students from across the UK – with some schools travelling from as far as Belfast! The morning started with motivational talks at The Dominion Theatre, and the afternoon involved a visit to a workplace. De Lisle students, along with those from 2 other Leicestershire schools, visited SEGRO’s offices – based just off Regent Street. Students took part in a networking lunch, heard presentations about the company and toured the offices.
We are very grateful to Emily from Career Ready for organising the event, and Collette, Ben, Imogen and their colleagues from SEGRO for their time. Transport to and from London was also kindly provided by SEGRO, which is greatly appreciated.
Students who took part commented:
“I found the Career Ready Capital Experience really helped me learn how I can benefit from doing the course and helped me improve my confidence. I am now really looking forwarded to reaping the benefits this course can offer me in the new year. Furthermore, the workplace visit was very informative, and it also helped me begin to create my network for the future.”
â Micheal, Year 22“The experience really helped me to find out what my purpose really is and what I should do to try and “figure it out”, the speaker at career ready used interaction to explain concepts which was very helpful, and finally the team at Segro were very welcoming and kind, I can’t thank them enough for their hospitality.”
â Armandeep, Year 12To follow this event up, all year 12 students took part in a Career Ready masterclass in school on Tuesday 13 December. This allowed the whole year group to consider employability skills such as networking and communication, and was delivered by a member of the Careers and Placements Team from University of Nottingham.
We look forward to further masterclasses for all students next term, and for our Career Ready students to begin their mentoring and workplace visits.
