Over the last three weeks, volunteers from the Life Beacon project, based at Loughborough Students’ Union, have been working with our students.
Over two weeks, a group of year 10 students heard about entrepreneurial skills, including what it takes to start your own business, and thinking ahead to the future option of studying at university. Our students enjoyed discussing both these topics over the two weeks with the undergraduate and postgraduate volunteers.
In the third week, Year 12 students attended a presentation and interactive workshop on the topic of university, which included discussion of alternative routes into careers – such as higher and degree apprenticeships. The workshop was very engaging, and questions were submitted for the student ambassadors to answer on topics such as life at university and what it is like studying different types of degrees. Year 12 gained a good insight into what questions to ask at open days and important features of courses and universities to consider when researching this possible future option.
We are very grateful to Richlove and the Life Beacon project team, which is made up of student ambassadors from Loughborough Students’ Union.
