Last week, 46 Year 8 students travelled to The Briars Catholic Youth Retreat Centre near Crich, Derbyshire, to enjoy some time away reflecting on Lent and prayer. The three day retreat gave students the opportunity to make new friends and grow in community, in addition to having a much needed break from the intensity of school life.

We arrived on Wednesday night to a fantastic welcome, fish and chips for dinner (as it was Ash Wednesday) followed by time in small groups working together on games based around the three themes of Lent, prayer, and fasting and charity.

After what I can only imagine was a full and wonderful night’s sleep for all, we spent the day learning more about the main themes of Lent. We also went on a walk around the beautiful Derbyshire countryside and celebrated Mass together in the late afternoon. The Mass was the beginning of our evening of celebration, where we shared a meal, followed by a brilliant talent show. Some wonderful acts were on display and it really showcased the talent De Lisle has to offer! The evening was drawn to a close with a beautiful prayer led by two team members.

The final morning was an opportunity to share kind words with each other, and enjoy a last prayer together, before heading back to school.

We hope all the students had a wonderful and memorable time. If you would like to see more of The Briars team you can find them @NDCYS on all social media platforms and NDCYSLive on YouTube.
