GCSE Business Maersk Visit

Thanks to an exciting partnership with global logistics giant Maersk, our Year 10 GCSE Business students got a rare opportunity to venture outside of the classroom and into the real-world of logistics last week.

A tour of Maersk’s cutting-edge facilities at East Midlands Gateway marked the start of the project. During a behind-the-scenes tour of the operations centre and warehouse, students learned that logistics includes much more than just packaging boxes. The Maersk team gave an energising presentation about the diverse range of jobs available in the sector, from digital technology and supply chain management to international coordination and customer relations. They also candidly discussed one of the main issues facing the sector at the moment: dispelling the myth that logistics is “just warehouse work”.

Motivated by their observations and conversations, collaborating in groups the students went back to school with the assignment of researching logistics career roles and creating an engaging presentation to encourage young people to pursue a career in the field. The final presentations were delivered back to representatives from Maersk, who visited us at school to see the students’ hard work.  Students produced a range of materials, such as captivating posters, social media advertisements and even a rap anthem, composed and performed by a particularly passionate student, which was well received by both classmates and guests! The team from Maersk were impressed by the creativity, professionalism and depth of understanding shown by our budding business minds.

“This project has been a fantastic example of real-world business collaborating with education. It’s been wonderful to see the students engaging so positively and challenging misconceptions to dispel myths about such an important sector. Their ideas were innovative, creative, and their confidence in presenting them was outstanding.” –  Mrs Hickman
