DE LISLE COLLEGE LIBRARY

The library supports reading by stocking a wide selection of books and genres for all ages and abilities to borrow and enjoy at home. There are over 16,000 books in the library and many have been recommended by our young people so we know the books have a wide appeal.

The library offers a Reading Challenge for all year groups, including a new challenge designed just for the older years. There are certificates, praise points and prizes to be won on completion of the challenge, including our reading badges.

Children who enjoy reading and writing are happier with their lives.

Together, we can grow a generation of readers so that no child is left behind.

Students in Year 7 are invited to take part in our Reading Challenges.

To complete the Bronze and Silver Awards, students will need to read 8 books for each award. They will then receive the bronze & silver reading owl badge.

To complete the Gold Award, students will need to read 10 more challenging books to gain their gold reading owl badge.

In Years 8-11 students can win praise points and a gold reading award by reading 10 books in a variety of genres.

SHADOWING THE YOTO CARNEGIE AWARD FOR WRITING

The De Lisle Bibliophiles are a group of keen readers who meet in  the library after school from mid March to June each year.

We’re a fun and relaxed group of staff and students who read and discuss books from a shortlist for the Yoto Carnegie Award for writing.

The staff and students are known as ‘shadowers’ as we shadow the judging process.

There are 8 books on the shortlist to read and in June we vote for our favourite book to win the Shadowers’ Choice Award.
