Logistics Beacon Report Launch

On Tuesday 25 November, a group of Year 11 students represented local schools at a launch event for the Logistics Beacon project.  The Logistics Beacon is a pilot project in Leicester and Leicestershire which set out to increase young people’s understanding of the logistics industry, one of the region’s fastest-growing sectors.  This was achieved via several opportunities, including for a group of Year 10 De Lisle Business Studies students to visit Maersk last academic year.

Following their visit to Maersk last academic year, a group of these students were invited to represent schools and young people at a launch event to share their perspectives on the logistics sector with industry representatives.  Of the De Lisle students in attendance,  five presented to this audience.  Two presentations, delivered by Alexis and Josh, and Oliver and Elijah, were followed by a memorable rap by Rafferty about this experience.  As well as the rap proving a hit with the audience, all students received excellent feedback on their public speaking skills and confidence.  Other students networked professionally and spoke positively their experience with those in attendance.

We are grateful to the Leicester & Leicestershire Careers Hub for including De Lisle students in this event, as well as The Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC) and Generation Logistics.

De Lisle College hopes to continue this work by arranging further workplace visits for students in the future, to find out about the world of work, including careers in the logistics sector.
