Level 3 Applied Diploma: Criminology

This Level 3 Applied Diploma (equivalent to one A level) will introduce you to the culture of crime and workings of the criminal justice system including the police, courts, prosecution services, prisons and rehabilitation services. Criminology is about crime and punishment. Crime is always in the public eye and has emerged as a social phenomenon inseparable from our day-to-day lives. Criminology is an exciting interdisciplinary subject which draws on law, psychology and sociology to examine how crime is defined, why people commit crimes, and how society responds.

Unit 1 – Changing awareness of crime
Unit 2 – Criminological theories
Unit 3 – Crime scene to courtroom
Unit 4 – Crime and punishment

Assessment is by controlled assessment (Units 1 and 3) and external examination (Units 2 and 4) and students will be assessed in both Year 12 and Year 13.

Minimum grade 4 in both GCSE English and GCSE Maths

This qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers.
