During the A level course you will study a variety of themes and sub-themes to help you communicate effectively across a range of issues:

Aspects of French-speaking society: current trends:

  • La famille en voie de changement
  • La cyber-société
  • Le rôle du bénévolat

Artistic culture in the French speaking world:

  • Une culture fière de son patrimoine
  • Cinéma: le septième art
  • La musique francophone contemporaine

Dossier cinéma et littérature:

  • L’étude du film L’auberge espagnole

The year 12 course builds confidence and provides a solid foundation
for the study of the themes and sub-themes in year 13.

Aspects of French-speaking society: current issues:

  • Les aspects positifs d’une société diverse
  • Quelle vie pour les marginalisés?
  • Comment on traite les criminels

Aspects of political life in the French-speaking world:

  • Les ados, le droit de vote et l’engagement politique
  • Manifestations, grèves – à qui le pouvoir?
  • La politique et l’immigration

Dossier cinéma et littérature:

  • L’étude du texte Un sac de billes

All four linguistic skills, grammatical awareness and vocabulary acquisition will be extended, practised and refined.

Paper 1: Listening, reading, writing = 50%
Paper 2: Writing: dossier cinéma et littérature = 20%
Paper 3: Speaking = 30%

Minimum grade 5 in GCSE French

This A level would lead directly into subject related university courses and careers, and indirectly into a wide range of higher education courses and career choices.
