A-Level History

This is a highly academic and challenging subject recognised as a ‘facilitator’ subject by Russell Group universities. It is made up of three parts:

  • The English Revolution 1625-1660, which looks at the causes and consequences of the English Civil War.
  • The Quest for Political Stability: Germany, 1871- 1991 which looks at Germany from unification, through the two World Wars and Cold War to Reunification after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
  • The Non-examined assessment covering Russian history between 1825-1941 in which you will look at either the causes of the Russian revolution or compare the Tsarist and Soviet regimes.

You will investigate a variety of themes, issues and debates relating to this fascinating time in world history.

Year 13: Two examinations and one 3500 word historical enquiry.

Minimum grade 5 in GCSE History or grade 5 in English if not studied at GCSE

This A level would lead directly into subject related university courses and careers, and indirectly into a wide range of higher education courses and career choices.
