A-Level Mandarin

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Mandarin programme gives students who have previously studied Chinese the opportunity to continue to improve their Chinese reading, writing, listening and speaking skills while studying their other A-Level subjects.

IB Chinese is organised around five broad themes: identities, experiences, human ingenuity, social organisation and sharing the planet. These themes are intended to prepare students to make positive contributions to today and tomorrow’s global society via the medium of Mandarin Chinese.

Paper 1: Productive skills (writing) = 1 hour 15 mins (25%)
Paper 2: Receptive skills (reading and listening) = 1 hour 45 mins (25% + 25%)
Internal assessment: Interactive skills (speaking) = 15 mins + preparation time (25%)
