Ash Wednesday at De Lisle

This week De Lisle celebrated Ash Wednesday. During period one, the whole school watched a liturgy led by two members of our sixth-form team so we could start the season of Lent in prayer.

After this, every student had the opportunity to write down something that there sorry for and wanted forgiveness for on a piece of purple paper. These were then collected in and burned to symbolise that Jesus forgives all the things we are sorry for and need forgiveness from.

Throughout the day all classes were visited, and all staff and students were given the opportunity to either receive ashes or a blessing.

In this season, we are looking at the three pillars of Lent: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. On Tuesday 19th March from 19:00-20:00, De Lisle College is hosting an event for the local community in which Margaret and Barry Mizen will be speaking on the theme ‘forgiveness’.

Also, De Lisle College is challenging the students to bring in non-perishable items, toiletries, and Easter treats during Lent. These items will then be given to a local foodbank that serves the local community.
