Career Ready – London Visit
On Friday 8 November, a group of Year 12 students visited the London offices of the SEGRO organisation as an introduction to the Career Ready programme. Career Ready is a national social mobility charity which delivers a structured programme of mentoring, paid internships, employability skills masterclasses and workplace visits. The programme is kindly sponsored by the SEGRO organisation as part of their commitment to the local community via the SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway.
Following an application and interview process, 21 Year 12 students are taking part in the programme this academic year and started their Career Ready journey with a visit to SEGRO’s central London offices. This included a masterclass on professional communication, a tour of the SEGRO offices and a chance to learn more about the company and its history. We are grateful to the SEGRO staff for their time and insight into their roles and company, and for allowing students to experience an employability skills masterclass and workplace visit.
Whilst in London, students also took the opportunity to visit the British Museum – the largest museum in the UK. This was an opportunity to see more of Central London and see exhibits from throughout world history.
Future Career Ready opportunities will be held throughout this academic year, such as a recent Year 13 masterclass on assessment centres – which was open to all students to attend.
