Year 9 – Inspiring Women in Engineering

On Wednesday 6 March, a group of 30 Year 9 girls spent the day at University of Nottingham’s Jubilee Campus.  The day was led by undergraduate and postgraduate students who were all inspiring women in engineering.  During the day, the girls heard about careers in engineering, the different disciplines of engineering that can be studied at University of Nottingham, and the role engineering can play in tackling issues related to carbon neutrality.  We also toured the Advanced Manufacturing Building and the impressive OMNIFACTORY – which included demonstrations of cutting-edge robotics, used in the design, testing and manufacture of aerospace technology.  Finally, students took part in a competitive challenge, to design a bridge that was both aesthetically pleasing and functional – with the winning group taking home prizes to remember their day.

We are very grateful to Lindsay and the team at the Education & Student Experience Office in the Faculty of Engineering for arranging this event.  We are also very grateful to the inspiring students who led the event and promoted the study of engineering in the future.
